DIY Face Moisturizer for Acne-Prone Skin: Cream & Oil-Based Recipes That Really Work

DIY Face Moisturizer for Acne-Prone Skin: Cream & Oil-Based Recipes That Really Work

When it comes to acne-prone skin, hydration is key—but using the wrong kind of moisturizer can clog pores, cause flare-ups, or leave your skin greasy. At Kel’s Your Body & Mine, we believe in gentle, effective solutions that nourish your skin without harsh chemicals.

Below are two DIY face moisturizer recipes:

  • A non-comedogenic face oil for those who prefer lightweight hydration

  • A cream-based moisturizer for more balanced moisture and skin barrier support

Both recipes are made with ingredients known to calm inflammation, regulate sebum, and support clear, glowing skin.

🌿 DIY Oil-Based Moisturizer for Acne-Prone Skin (Non-Comedogenic)

Ingredients (for 30ml bottle):

  • 15g Jojoba Oil (mimics skin’s natural sebum)

  • 10g Grapeseed Oil (lightweight and anti-inflammatory)

  • 3g Rosehip Seed Oil (rich in Vitamin A, great for acne scars)

  • 1g Tea Tree Essential Oil (antibacterial)

  • 1g Lavender Essential Oil (calms redness)

  • Optional: 1g Vitamin E (natural antioxidant and skin softener)

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients in a clean amber glass dropper bottle.

  2. Shake gently before each use.

  3. Use 3–4 drops on damp skin after cleansing and toning.

Why It Works:
This formula hydrates without clogging pores and includes acne-fighting ingredients like tea tree and rosehip oil.

🧴 DIY Cream Moisturizer for Acne-Prone Skin (Water-Based & Light)

Ingredients (makes ~50g):

Phase A:

  • 30g Aloe Vera Juice (soothing and anti-inflammatory)

  • 2g Glycerin (humectant to draw in moisture)

Phase B:

  • 5g Jojoba Oil

  • 5g Emulsifying Wax NF (or Olivem 1000)

  • 2g Shea Butter (non-comedogenic and healing)

Phase C (cool-down):

  • 0.5g Tea Tree Essential Oil

  • 0.5g Lavender Essential Oil

  • 1g Preservative (Liquid Germall Plus or equivalent)

Instructions:

  1. Heat Phase A and Phase B separately to ~70°C.

  2. Combine both phases and blend with a stick blender until creamy.

  3. Let cool to below 40°C, then add Phase C ingredients.

  4. Pour into a clean jar and store in a cool, dry place.

💧 Use a pea-sized amount on clean, damp skin morning and night.

Why It Works:
Aloe vera and jojoba oil hydrate without heaviness, while tea tree and lavender oils combat breakouts gently.
